Little Acorns and Budding Artists: Kids Who Followed Their Dreams

September 7, 2005 - January 14, 2006

This exhibit displays examples of early work by several botanical artists and naturalists who began developing their interests in nature as young people. Seventeenth century naturalist/artist Maria Sibylla Merian and 18th century botanical artist Barbara Regina Dietzsch are two budding artists in the exhibit; more current ones include Carol Lerner, nature artist and author of over 20 books for young adults, and two of America's finest nature writers, Donald Culross Peattie and Edwin Way Teale.

Journals and nature art work done by eleven different kids are featured as part of this exhibit; some 'little acorns' participated in the summer science camp 2005, some 'budding artists' in Suzanne Wegener's pencil drawing class. Parents will find informative books on nature study and nature art for their children on display as well.
